David and I went down to the Balad (aka downtown Amman) today with some friends. It was pretty slow - everyone was home, sleeping away the afternoon, waiting for sunset, so they could eat.
We looked at and purchased suits, fruits and vegetables, kanafa, a delicious middle eastern pastry dripping in honey, and illegally reproduced DVD's (yay for Despicable Me 2!). We looked at but didn't purchase gold and found out in the process that our friend Brandon has gold buried someplace on his large plots of land...I know how me and my shovel are spending my next vacation.
Best of all, one shop owner let us sneak inside his shop, to taste all the flavors of his Ramadan juice. It was a savvy business move, as we walked away with four jugs full of strawberry, tamarind and lemon flavored juice (although not sure how sneaky it was, since the shop had floor to ceiling windows, allowing passersby to see us drinking?!).
